Theben timing controls have been around since Paul Schwenk founded the company in Stuttgart Germany in 1921. Like Lumenite®, Theben is a successful family company that combines the best of tradition and innovation. A BRIEF HISTORY OF THEBEN

It all started in 1921 with the first Schwenk time switch for staircases to stop lighting from being on all the time. The first Theben energy saving product was born and in 1930 this led to the development of the successful ELPHA automatic time switch.

Laying the foundations : Paul Schwenk's drawings for the first "3-minute switch for staircase lighting" from back in 1921. The start of an incredible success story: With over 30 million devices sold, the ELPA has become synonymous with staircase time switches.

In September of 2020, Theben named Paul Sebastian Schwenk (great grandson of Theben founder Paul Schwenk) as Chairman of the Board of Management at Theben AG and Michael Matthesius is the new Chief Technology Officer.
