RF Capacitance Level Transmitters

4220 level transmitter for food, dairy, chemical, pharmaceuticaland industrial applications. Provides a 4-20mA, 20-4mA, 1-5VDC or5-1VDC continuous signal. Works in conductive and non-conductiveliquids and granular solids. Customizable tank connection can befitted with an industrial XP or nema 4x enclosure.

How RF Capacitance Level Measurement Works

"The Capacitance Principal" of level measurement says the output signal in milliamps is dependent on the formula:

C = KA / D

Capacitance (C) = Dielectric Constant (K) × Area of Parallel Plates (A) ÷ Distance Between Parallel Plates (D)

In a level measurement application, the dielectric constant "K" is a value greater than 1. Capacitance (C) and the resultant mA output increases as the dielectric constant increases, the probe diameter and length increases, and the distance from the probe to tank wall decreases.

4220 RF Capacitance Level Transmitter

Lumenite® 4220 Transmitters provide a continuous 4-20mA, 1-5VDC or 5-1VDC analog output proportional to the material level in any shaped tank. They can be used for conductive, non-conductive liquids and moist granular solids.

Frequently Asked Questions — RF Capacitance Level Transmitters

What liquids can the Lumenite 4220 capacitance level transmitter measure?

The 4220 works with conductive and non-conductive liquids as well as moist granular solids — including water, dairy products, chemicals, oils, and food-grade liquids. Its Cancel Coat™ circuitry prevents false readings caused by conductive coatings on the probe.

What output signal does the 4220 RF capacitance transmitter provide?

The 4220 provides a continuous 4-20mA, 1-5VDC, or 5-1VDC analog output proportional to the material level in any shaped tank, making it compatible with virtually all PLCs, DCS systems, and digital panel meters.

How accurate is the Lumenite 4220 level transmitter?

The 4220 delivers accuracy and repeatability better than 0.1% of span, with resolution exceeding 1 part in 10,000 and linearity better than 0.003% over an industrial temperature range of -20°F to 160°F.

Can I get a combination level and temperature transmitter?

Yes. The Lumenite MLST and MLXT are combination level and temperature transmitters that provide two separate 4-20mA outputs from a single probe and single tank connection. Temperature measurement ranges from -100°F to 1,000°F.

Are Lumenite capacitance level transmitters made in the USA?

Yes. All Lumenite® transmitters have been designed and manufactured in the USA since 1934.
